About this role
Plant Operations & Production Management:
Lead end-to-end heavy/structural fabrication operations (cutting, fitting, welding, assembly, surface treatment, and dispatch).
Formulate and execute daily, monthly, and annual Production Planning & Control (PPC) schedules to meet customer delivery timelines.
Optimize capacity utilization, minimize scrap/wastage, and continuously drive cost-reduction initiatives.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
Ensure strict compliance with international and national codes (ASME, AWS, IS Standards) for structural steel and heavy fabrication.
Oversee welding quality (WPS/PQR) and coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and third-party inspections.
Maintain quality management systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
Team Leadership & Manpower Management:
Supervise and mentor production managers, welding engineers, quality inspectors, and shop-floor supervisors.
Manage a large workforce (regular and contract labor), ensuring proper shift rostering, skill training, and productivity tracking.
Foster a culture of safety, discipline, and high performance on the shop floor.
Plant Maintenance & Safety (EHS):
Implement Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and preventive maintenance schedules for heavy machinery, EOT cranes, and welding equipment to avoid downtime.
Enforce rigorous Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) protocols and zero-accident policies.
Ensure full compliance with statutory labor laws, Factory Acts, and State Pollution Control Board (CECB) guidelines.
Supply Chain & Resource Coordination:
Coordinate with procurement and stores for timely availability of raw materials (MS plates, sections, channels, beams) and consumables (electrodes, gases).
Utilize ERP systems (SAP/Oracle) for tracking inventory, product
Required skills
1. Leadership & Plant Management Operations Leadership: Complete P&L (Profit and Loss) ownership of the fabrication unit, managing plant-level budgeting, resource allocation, and cost optimization. Production Planning & Control (PPC): Master-level ability to schedule shop-floor workflows, balance workloads across heavy machinery, and eliminate bottlenecks to meet strict project dispatch deadlines. Team Building & Supervision: Leading a cross-functional plant hierarchy including production managers, quality assurance heads, shift engineers, supervisors, certified welders, and fitters. 2. Technical & Process Expertise Fabrication Mastery: Deep hands-on knowledge of heavy structural and PEB steel processing—including CNC plasma cutting, plate shearing, sub-merged arc welding (SAW), fit-up, assembly, and shot blasting/painting lines. Drawing & Engineering Comprehension: Advanced capability to review and sign off on complex General Arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication drawings, and structural load calculations. Machinery Maintenance: Oversight of preventive and breakdown maintenance for heavy plant machinery (EOT cranes, welding rectifiers, hydraulic press brakes, shearing machines, and drilling lines). 3. Quality Assurance & Safety (HSE) Quality Control Management: Implementing strict Quality Management Systems (QMS) and managing Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) workflows like Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT), and dimensional tolerance checks. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Zero-accident culture enforcement, rigid adherence to hot-work permits, crane lifting safety, electrical safety, and statutory factory acts compliance. 4. Supply Chain & Inventory Coordination Material Management: Coordination with procurement and stores for timely inventory management of raw materials (HR plates, structural sections, fasteners, welding consumables) to avoid project delays. Logistics & Dispatch: Managing oversized vehicle loading, transit safety documentation, and coordination with installation/site execution teams.
