About this role
The Die Maker is responsible for the precision manufacturing, dressing, polishing, maintenance, and quality control of tungsten carbide and diamond dies used in the wire rod rolling mill. The role ensures smooth wire drawing, accurate dimensional tolerances, and minimizes surface defects on the finished wire rods.
Required skills
Die Reconditioning & Polishing: Hands-on expertise in using ultrasonic cleaning machines, die-polishing lathes, needle/pin polishers, and internal grinding tools. Ability to accurately reshape and finish the reduction angle, bearing length, and exit cone of tungsten carbide (TC) and PCD dies. Precision Measurement: Proficient use of micro-measuring equipment such as optical microscopes, air gauges, pin gauges, micrometers, and vernier calipers to measure exact bore diameters and roundness (tolerances down to microns). Mill Process Knowledge: Understanding of wire drawing/rolling principles, reduction ratios, draft calculations, and how die wear affects wire rod surface quality and tensile strength.
