About this role
The Motor Winding Mechanic is responsible for the repair, rewinding, overhaul, and preventive maintenance of all types of AC/DC electric motors, transformers, alternators, and heavy-duty industrial coils used across the plant (e.g., kiln drives, conveyors, pumps, ID/FD fans, and crushers). The goal is to ensure minimum equipment downtime and high electrical reliability.
Required skills
Rewinding & Coil Fabrication: Hands-on experience in manual and machine winding of AC/DC motors (LT/HT), submersible pumps, alternators, and transformers. Expertise in stripping old windings, calculating turns, pitch, and gauge for rewinding. Knowledge of slot insulation, baking, and vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) varnishing processes. Testing & Troubleshooting: Proficiency in using testing instruments like Meggers (Insulation Resistance testers), Multimeters, Clamp meters, and Earth resistance testers. Ability to detect electrical faults such as short circuits, earth leakage, open circuits, and bearing seizure causes. Mechanical Basics: Skill in bearing extraction and replacement, rotor balancing, and checking air gap clearances. Ability to read motor nameplates, electrical circuit diagrams, and rewinding data sheets.
